About Johannes Saengar
I was born in Germany about 1705, in the OberLustadt area. In 1734,my wife Catrina, my daughter and I sailed from Rotterdam aboard the St.Andrew, arriving in Philadelphia in the fall of 1734. We started a family tree that probably numbers in the thousands. My son John C. fought in the Revolutionary War. One historical account has Johns son Christian being born during the Battle of Germantown. After my death my wife Catrina moved to Blue Bell PA, and the family spread from there. Blue Bell is the place that we ALL have in common.
The New York colony was starving so Johannes was in a group of Palestine’s whom petitioned William Penn to allow them to move to Pennsylvania. William Penn gave them permission to come on the proviso that the German Palestine’s anglicised their name. Johannes changed the family name from Zenger to Senger (later Singer) in order to comply.
He received a land grant in 1746 & farmed near Sand Hill St Paul Lutheran church in what is now Dauphin county, PA.
