About Johannis Dahl
Born:Småland, Sweden
Father of 12 Oscar Dahl (1886 - 1968)* Adolph Dahl (1891 - 1968)* Albert Dahl (1893 - 1952)* Julia Gertrude Dahl Lauson (1903 - 1979)* Edna Amelia Dahl McLaren (1906 - 1990)* Signe Amy Dahl Pearson(1907-1994)* ................ Johannis "John" Dahl came with his family from Sister Bay, Wisconsin to Bark River 1897. They bought land, jobbed & cleared it for farming. There were no roads, just a trail through the woods which they used t carry their groceries & supplies. John & 11-year old son, Oscar, came across the lake bay on the ice with a team of horses & a sleigh loaded with the family’s “worldly goods”. It was a trip of over 40 miles. There were places where they walked in water up to their knees & had to put planks across big cracks in the ice so that the horses could get across with the wagon load. They landed in Cedar River. The rest of the family came by boat in the spring & brought along the cows & chickens. John bought a farm by the Bark River on the East Road. Johannis & Amanda Dahl had 12 children, 6 boys & 6 girls.
