His Last Will and Testament

John Arbuckle made his last will and testament at Glasgow on 15 June 1575. He nominated Agnes Johnstoun, his wife, and Robert Mure, merchant burgess of Glasgow, as his executors. He left a number of small legacies to members of the Arbuckle family, although no mention is made of relationship. He left the remainder of his goods and gear to his granddaughter Elizabeth Arbuckle: "the rest of my guids & gear to Elspeth Arbukill my oy". John Arbukle, junior, and granddaughter and heiress of q[uondam]' John Arbukle, senior, sasine of (1) a tenememt, fore and back, under and above, with yard and pertinents, on the south side of the street leading from the South Nether Port to the great bridge over the Clyde, between the lands of q. John Woddrop on the east, and other lands on the west; (2) a rig of open land, lying in the croft of St, Tenew, between the piece of land belonging to Thomas Scot on the north, and the Green on the south; (3) an annualrent of 8 s., payable furth of the said piece of land belonging to Thomas Scot, let to him in feu-farm by John Arbukle, senior, for the said annualrent' (4) an annualrent of 36 s. 8 d. payable furth of a tenement of land, fore and back, belonging to John Patersoun, tanner (pellione), lying on the north side of the street leading from the South Port to the great bridge over the Clyde, between the lands of q. Robert Wynzet on the east, and the lands or common vennel on the west; (5) an annualrent of 20 s., payable furth of a tenement, with yard and pertinents, belonging to q. 20 December 1575: William Conyghame, bailie, gave sasine to Elizabeth Arbuckill as heir of q[uondam]. John Arbuckill, citizen, her grandfather, of a tenement of land with yard and pertinents, formerly belonging to William Bogill, lying t.c., on the east side of the street called Stockuelgait, between the lands of William Wilson on the north and the lands of William Nesbit on the south. Thereafter Elizabeth Arbuckill, Thomas Mure, her spouse, and Agnes Johnston, relict of the said q[uondam]. John Arbuckill, acknowledged that they had received from John Wilsoun, citizen, and Jonet Calderwod, spouses, as assignees of William Bogill, fisher, £40 (contained in a reversion granted by q[uondam]. John Arbuckill to William Bogill) for redemption of the property, and they therefore resigned the same in favour of John Wilsoun and spouse.
