John Armistead: dies while visiting Uncle Walker Keith Armistead

John Armistead, the son of Mr. Addison Armistead, and nephew to Colonel jWalker K. Armistead, of the U.S. Army, was killed on Saturday morning last by the accidental discharge of his gun. He was about 17, had just returned from the military school of Capt. Partridge, and as on a visit to his uncle at Fort Washington, 8 miles from Alexandria. While crossing a small creek that as frozen oven, with his gun in his hand which he had taken along to kill ducks, he kept testing the strength of the ice with the butt end, when the gun fired and killed him instantly.
