Per "Surrey", 1814</p><p>1817 Aug 30; 1822 Dec 5 Servant of Colonel Molle of Minto from Jul 1814 to Jul 1817, at which time he was assigned to his wifeElizabeth; attestation as to his character for a ticket of leave (Reel 6026; 4/1715 pp.147-8)</p><p> </p><p>John Ashcroft aged 30 years was convicted at the Lancashire Assizes on July 1 1813 with stealing a quantity of cambric, calico and gingham pieces, in the company of Thomas Phillips, from the bleaching grounds of Thomas Ridgeway the elder and Thomas Ridgeway the younger at Horwich</p><p>John was sentenced to 14 years and transported on the ship Surry to Australia, departing 22 February 1814, arriving 28 July 1814.</p><p> </p><p>I found the following today in the Baptisms for Lee Lane Chapel, Horwich.</p><p> </p><p>1st October 1781 John, son of John and Margaret Ashcroft of Aspull.</p><p> </p><p>There were two other baptisms to this couple, i.e.</p><p>13th October1782 Ruth, and Mary on the 22nd March 1785. There were no</p><p>other Ashcroft's at this chapel. I have also checked St. Mary's Deane, and</p><p>Horwich New Chapel Independent.</p><p> </p><p>Aspull village lies 3 miles south west of Horwich.</p><p> </p><p>Parentage Unconfirmed</p><p>ASHCROFT, John.
