JOHN BASS (RUTH2 ALDEN, JOHN1) was born November 26, 1658 in Braintree, Massachusetts, and died September 30, 1724 in Braintree, Massachusetts.

He married (1) ABIGAIL ADAMS 1678 in Braintree, Massachusetts, daughter of JOSEPH ADAMS and ABIGAIL BAXTER. She was born December 27, 1658 in Braintree, Massachusetts, and died October 26, 1696 in Braintree, Massachusetts.

He married (2) REBECCA SAVILLE February 17, 1697/98 in Braintree, Massachusetts. She was born July 03, 1672.

Notes for Jr John Bass: "John Bass of Braintree .... Yeoman" made his will on 10 Ju ly,1723. Bequests were as follows:To "Rebecca, my well belo ved wife to be enjoyed by her duringher natural life, tha t end of my dwelling house, next the Street, with the dary- Room; also one fourth part of the Lands, which my father le ft me by Will . further, I give to her, and to my Son Ebene zer after her Decease, one acre of Land adjoining to my orc hard, which my father gave me, with my bestfeather Bed, & f urniture, and one pair new woolen blankets, Twopair Cotto n & Linen Sheets . moreover, an Iron Kettle, a new Brass Sk illet a warming-pan . foure chairs she brought with her, he r Chest, the new Table, all Earthen, & glass weare of wha t Sort Soever, all peuter, not brought with my former wife , one Silver Spoone, a Tramel, Peal, Tongs & gridiron . al l Spining Wheels for woolen or Linen, and utensils used abo ut Spining &c with the half of all other moveables not abov e mentioned, in particular, excepting what came with my for mer wife. Further, towards her comfortable Subsistence, m y will is, That my Sons, viz Samuel & Ebenezer, do provid e forher, each of them (yearly & every year) five bushels o f Indian corne, and three bushels of 106 Alden-Bass-Adams-T aylor rye, Ten shillings in Beef, five Pounds of sheepswol l, & Three pounds of flax . Each of 'em Two Cords of woo d & and one Bushe] of malt: and apples, what she needs fo r her own use . further I give to her, one Cow to be at he r owne disposal . with all money or silver wear which I sha ll leave at my Decease moreover, I give to her, and to my S on Ebenezer after her Decease . all that was given her by h er father, whether money, or other moveables.' To "my Son Samuel Bass .... my Dwell ing-house Barne, and other Smal Edifices, with the Land abo ut the house, and the orchard, with the half of all other t he Lands I have power to D'spose of, (Excepting one acre o f Salt Marsh, in the broad meadows.) with the half of the m oveables which came by his mother as abovesaid".To "my So n Ebenezer Bass .... besides what I have given to him to b e enjoyed after the Death of his mother, one acre of Salt m arsh in the broad-meadows, abovementioned, and, the remaini ng half of the Lands I have power to dispose of above menti oned also." "further, my wills is, that my Malt-Mill, wit h all my shoptools be equally divided between my three Son s abovementioned." "all my Debts & funeral Charges shall b e paid out of my Stock, and what shall remaine after this , shall be equally divided between my Son Samuel & my Son E benezer." whatsoever of household-provision either of grain e or otherwise, shall be in the house at my decease, or o f Cropps on the Ground, shall be for the use of my family t hat shall Survive." "It is my desire and Will, that my Land s at the house Lot wch I value at Sixty Pounds; and that a t home, in the orchard & stony field, valued at Ten Pound a cre, and Pasture at Six Pounds an acre, If Samuel & Ebeneze r See cause to sell one to the other, be Sold, at the valu e abovementioned." "I do hereby constitute .... my Son Samu el Executor, & Rebecca my beloved wife Executrix" The witne sses were Jonathan Webb, Jerusha Webb, and Benjamin Webb. T hey made oath to the will, at Boston, on 30 November, 1724 . [The will was also recorded, 23: 425.] Alden-Bass-Adams-T hayer 107 [From original petition] "These are to Signifie t o your Honour, that it is my desire that you would admit o f my Husband's Will being proved, tho' I am uncapable of ap pearing before your Honour, thro' bodily weakness at this T ime &c" Signed "rebakca bass" and dated "Braintree Nov: 30 , 1724." [23: 425] The will was probated on 30 November, 17 24, and administration granted to "his Relict Widow Rebecc a Bass and his Son Samuel Bass Executors".
