John Blake was born October 31, 1656, in New Hampshire Province, a son of Jasper and Deborah Blake. [1] New Hampshire was a Royal Province of England prior to 1641 when it was claimed by the Massachusetts Bay Colony and was dubbed the Upper Province of Massachusetts. In 1680, New Hampshire returned to its status as a Royal Province, but this lasted only until 1688 when it again became part of Massachusetts. The place where John was born became part of Rockingham county, New Hampshire, when that county was established.

John Blake and his brother Timothie Blake were co-administrators of the Will of their father, Jasper Blake, written in the County of Norfolke [sic] in the Collony [sic] of Massachusits [sic] in 1673. (Note: spelling is transcribed as was written in the document)

It is agreed between Timothie and John Blake, adminestrators to the estate of Jasper Blake and thet six children of the sayd Jasper Blake as followeth viz thatt Deborah the wife of Eliasor Elkins hat her partt as appears by a receitt under the hand of the sd Eliazor Elkins, and for the other five children itt is agreed by the sd Timothie and John Blake thatt they shal recieve the some of fiftie pounds thatt is to say ten pound a peece as they come to age and for the payment of the sd fifty pound to the sd five childre we the sd Timothi and John Blake doe hereby ingage thatt the land of the sd Jasper Blake shall ly responsable fo the paymentt of the sd legacies and hereto wee sett our hands this tenth day of November, 1679 [2] John Blake and his wife, Frances (?nee) [3] had children, including the following:
