About John Thomas Browne

Note: John T. Browne was the mayor of Houston from 1892-1896. Served in the Texas House of Representatives from 1897-1899, and again in 1907.

John Thomas Browne, son of Michael and Winifred Hennessy Browne served as mayor of Houston, Texas from 1892 to 1896. Also, he served in the Texas House of Representatives from 1897 to 1899 and again in 1907. Under his leadership, the development of the area known as Houston Heights began across the Buffalo Bayou. John established the first paid fire department of Houston. Note: John T. Browne was the mayor of Houston from 1892-1896. Served in the Texas House of Representatives from 1897-1899, and again in 1907.
