CHASTEEN GENEALOGY AND FAMILY HISTORY by Naomi Ruth Jackson Chasteen, Gregath Co., 1987 P.86 p. 87
1810 Census - Pendleton Dist., SC, (the general area of this state in which this family was living at this time period.) p. 164 - Stephen Chasteen - 2 males under 10; 1 male 16-26; 1 male 45+; 1 female 10-16; 1 female 26-45 (Also living in the next household) p. 164 - John Chasteen - 1 male under 10; 1 male 16-26; 1 female 16-26
This John is the only man who matches Renny's possible father in the 1820 Pendleton Census, so his birthdate is narrowed to 1784-90. The Stephen next door fits well as John's possible father being born before 1765 and a wife born by 1770 (son born 1784-94); Stephen and his wife then born in the 1760's.
1820 Census, Anderson/Pendleton Districts - page 210
John Chesteen with 4 males under 10; the most likely candidate as Renny's father. This Johon living near James and David in 1830 and near the same David and a Samuel and Stephen in 1820 was born 1780-90
NOTATION: the change in spelling of Chasteen beginning on the census records for these SC Chastains. From that generation on - this Chasteen live to present day - have used the spelling "Chasteen."
