About John Coggan, II
Mary Jordain Cogan immigrated 1633 to Boston with her husband John Cogan as the Primary Immigrant. Family Members: Son John; Daughter Elizabeth; Daughter Mary
i JOHN b. about 1621; deposed "aged about seventeen years" in August 1639 [Lechford 151]; admitted to Boston church 8 May 1642 [BChR 36]; admitted freeman 18 May 1642 ("as John Coggan, Juni[or]"%29 [MBCR 2:291]; no further record.
(McCracken notes that Pope erroneously reports a baptismal date for this John of "8 (3) 1642" [NEHGR 111:16]; Pope has misread the church admission as a baptism.)
COMMENTS: George E. McCracken prepared and published the definitive treatment of the Coggan family in 1956 and 1957, and, unless stated otherwise, we follow him here [NEHGR 110:185-201, 258-276, 111:5-18, 84-91, 168-187, 245-248, with John Coggan of Boston and his family at 111:10-18].
