Across from the house in the old orchard field is the original cemetery, in which twenty seven bodies are buried. There are three rows of graves containing nine bodies each.

Biography

John Crandall II has English ancestors.
JOHN CRANDALL was the son of Elder John Crandall, his mother's name unknown. He married Elizabeth Gorton, daughter of Samuel Gorton and Elizabeth Maplet, on 18 Jun 1672 at Warwick, Rhode Island.[1]

John and Elizabeth had five children: John; Elizabeth Wilcox; Mary (bef. 1681-1763); Peter; and Samuel.

Some sources say he was a blacksmith.

In 1667 his father gifted him land in Westerly, Rhode Island, however the Connecticut colony filed a complaint that the land belonged to the town of Stonington. In 1670 he inherited his father’s “mansion” and 200 acres of land. In 1671 he became a freeman.

In a deed dated 13 May 1678, Elder John Crandall's house and 200 acres of land in Westerly were turned over by John Crandall Jr., son and heir, to his brothers Jeremiah and Eber (minors) who were "in the tuition of their mother Hannah Crandall".[1]

In 1695 he is noted living in Warwick, as he and Peter Wells had the local government vote on who had jurisdiction of their land, Kingstown or Westerly. Both he and Elizabeth died in 1704, in North Kingstown, Rhode Island.

John died between 25 Jan and 14 Aug 1704.[1] He was buried at the Old Crandall Cemetery in Westerly, Washington County, Rhode Island.
