John DeHart is listed as John De Hart for the DAR records as being a Private serving under Capt. Joseph Sands and Capt. Rhodes in the 5th Batt. Amity Twn. Berks Co. PA under the ancestor number: A031367. He is a direct descendant of Aert Symonz De Hart born in Niewkoop, North Holland, Netherlands abt. 1607 who was married to Gerritizen Stoffles Dec. 18, 1639 in Holland and came to America in 1664, settling in Brooklyn, NY where he owned a plantation (deed March 2, 1674). He is listed as the eldest son of Cornelius on land deeds when his father died inesate. John's wife, Elizabeth, also listed in many deeds. Her married name is listed in the will of her mother Dorothea Weidner of Amity on Aug. 15, 1807. John is also listed as married in original tax records for 1772.
