Birth: Oct. 6, 1793 Death: Dec. 6, 1794
In this small family cemetery, this slate gravestone for John Doane had been left propped up against the side of the marker for Emeline Minick. It is the oldest stone that was found in the cemetery, dating to the year 1794. All of the other burials in this cemetery are for the Minick family, so it’s quite a mystery why this young child was buried here. John has another gravestone, most likely a cenotaph, located in the Ancient Cemetery in Barnstable County, Massachusetts. His parents, Elisha and Susan Bassett Doane, as well as a younger brother that shares his name are buried there.
