About John Thompson Dorrance, Jr.

http://articles.philly.com/1989-04-10/news/26141591_1_campbell-soup...

John T. Dorrance Jr. was the chairman of the Campbell Soup Company from 1962 to 1984,

He was the son of Dr. John T. Dorrance, the company's first president and the inventor of canned condensed soup.

He was a native of Cinnaminson, N.J., and a graduate of the St. George's School in Newport, R. I., and Princeton University. He joined Campbell in 1946 after serving in the United States Army in China in World War II, rising from private to captain.

Posts he held at Campbell included floor foreman at the Camden, N.J., plant, assistant treasurer and assistant to the president. He was on Campbell's board since 1947 and became chairman of the board's executive committee in 1984.

(another account) "John T. Jr., known as Jack, was the last Dorrance to run Campbell. His three children split about a third of the company when he died in 1989. The eldest son, John III, whose main claim to fame was his decision in the mid-90's to become an Irish citizen in what some critics viewed as a tax-avoidance move, has sold his stake. The other two are Campbell directors: Bennett, a Phoenix real estate developer who is active in local philanthropy; and Mary Alice Malone, who owns a horse farm, Iron Spring, in Coatesville, Pa. She is known for competing in dressage."
