John Earp was the son of Thomas Earp Jr. and a brother of Joseph Earp of whom a genealogy was written by Charles A. Earp.
He became the progenitor of the Earps who settled along the Potomac River in Fairfax County VA. He married a woman named Rebecca (last name unknown) and had known sons as follows: Henry, Thomas, America, Joseph and William. John Earp patented a large farm known as Macklams Friendship near his father's place in 1719 and paid rent to the colonial propriator along with his brother Joseph. He sold these properties in 1728 and moved to Virginia. John Earp's will was probated in 1745.
