About John Fahey aka Fahy

Married Josephine Swanson who was American born of Irish mother and Swedish or Norwegian father. They were married in New York City (borough unknown).
John was a stationary engineer for City of NY and worked at a pumping station in Coney Island.
Josesephine died in early 30's in NYC. John's niece Frances Foy came to NY and kept house for John whose home was in Flatbush section of Brooklyn. John retired at age 59 yrs. in apparently good health. He decided to move to New Bedford but took sick on the road, was admitted to a hospital and died befor ever receiving first pension check. Buried in New Bedford, MA. Name was often spelled Fahy due to error at bank. Frances Foy was beneficiary of his assets and pension.
John owned house at East 14th St. and Ave P in Brooklyn. Belonged to St. Brendan's parish.

Obituary indicates that John was 13 yrs old when he came to U.S (about 1890). He lived in New Bedford before attending Pratt Inst. and then moved to Bklyn. He worked for NYC for 32 yrs.
August 2001--Found in NYC Library records that John was Naturalized Oct 15, 1903; Vol 45, Record No. 44. He lived at 87 Carlton Ave, Brooklyn. His occupation then was trainman. He arrived in US July 14, 1889 in Port of Boston. His witness was William N. Wing, same address.
John is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in New Bedford, MA. Headstone says that he died in 1934, but in reality, he died in 1936.
