John went first to Fishkill, Dutchess Co. (now in Putnam Co., split off of Dutchess Co.), later moving to Newburgh, Ulster Co, New York about 1755-56. That he was in Fishkill after 1735 (when his daughter, Sarah, was baptized in Hempstead), but before 1740 is shown by a reference to, Early New York State Census records: 1663-1672, p. 20, made in notes of Donald H. Jeffery to Hilary Foskett. These indicate that John Flewelling was a freeholder in Fishkill, Dutchess Co., NY 28AUG1740.
