WILLIAM GIBSON of "Rose Hill," Baltimore Town, Md., was born in Leonardtown, Md., September 22, 1753, and died April 29, 1832. He is buried with his children and grandchildren in "Old St. Paul's Church Yard." When quite young he cam to Baltimore Town and subsequently bought "Rose Hill," which was situated in the suburbs; the house stood at the intersection of Eutaw and Lanvale Streets. Appointed a member of the Court of Admiralty in 1776, also the same year one of the signers of Continental Money, and in 1797 one of the electors for the first Mayor of Baltimore, he was chosen "to receive for safe keeping all monies in hands of Commissioners of said Town until the Corporation shall further order." [Griffith's Annals of Baltimore Town.] He was a vestryman in Old St. Paul's Church for many years. He married, December 31, 1775, Sarah, daughter of John and Sarah Morris, of Joppa, Md.
Their eldest son, John Gibson, III., of "Chestnut Hill," Baltimore, was born 1784, and educated at St. John's College, Annapolis. He was one of the successful merchants of Baltimore in the early part of the last century. When quite young, he was chosen Vestryman of "Old St. Paul's Parish," serving in that capacity for nearly thirty-five years, and only resigning to become one of the founders of St. John's Parish, Huntington, in the immediate neighborhood of his home, "Chestnut Hill." To this congregation he rendered very important service and died a member of its Vestry, February 24, 1860. He married, September 18,1806, Elizabeth C., daughter of George II. and Mary (Carr) Grundy of "Bolton." Issue:

The fourth son and fifth child, Charles Crosdale Gibson, married Priscilla Charlotte, daughter of Dr. Henry and Priscilla (Robinson) Boteler, born 1819. Their daughter, MARY GRUNDY GIBSON, married Clapham Murray.
