John L. Gingrich

John lived in Washington township, Snyder County when married. He was the oldest son in the family. After marrying he and Elizabeth live in a adjoining farm to his father, which his father Christian owned. He sought to buy the farm however he could not come to an agreement on its price thereafter he moved ten miles west to Evendale in 1855. Elizabeth and John resided all their lives at their new homestead. This farm has remained in the Gingrich family now 153 years (2008) with John's great grandson John Lloyd Gingrich owning it today. John died at an early age of 51 years of consumption. His three oldest children died also of consumption shortly after his own passing. John was a member of Lauver's Mennonite Church.
