About John Greene, of Horsforth
Biography
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Green-45462
John was born about 1563, the son of Gabriel Green. He was said to be 22 years old at the Visitation of Yorkshire in 1584/1585, signed by his father Gabriel.[1]
He married Beatrice Wentworth on 18 February 1583/1584 at St Peter, Leeds, Yorkshire, "Mr John Grene of Horsforth and Mrs Bettris Wentfurth of Armeley Hall wedded together".[2][3][4]
In 1587 he was named with his wife and parents in the sale of land at Rawdon: "Henry Cotes; Gabriel Grene, gent., and Alice his wife and John Grene, his son and heir apparent, and Beatrix his wife; Messuage with lands in Rawden."[5] There are several similar family transactions over the next few years.
In September 1600 John appeared at the West Riding Quarter Sessions accused of breaking into the house of Tristram Lillie at Idle, Bradford, with other unknown people armed with daggers, staves and swords. It was said he beat, wounded, and maltreated Tristram.[6]
John died in 1637 and was buried at Guiseley, Yorkshire, on 25 May 1637, "John Greine of Horsforth".[7][8]
