John George Hart is named as one of the children in the Death Notice of his Father Edwin Hart SV/PROG of Willow Cottage, Wynberg (Cape Town Archives KAB MOOC LEER 6/9/355 01/2039 filed 25/8/1896). In Edwin Hart's Liquidation and Distribution Account (KAB MOOC LEER 13/1/774 01/146 filed 28 Sept 1896) John George Hart is one of six children left 32 pounds, 19 shillings and 5and a half pence, as well as 10 pounds.

JG Hart subsequently took out several mortgage bonds (KAB DOC LEER 4/1/504 02/4489 1896, 4/1/531 02/2288 1897, 4/1/560 02/5180 1897) for cottages in Ottery Rd (lots 17, 20 and 22) and a house and shop (lots 21 and 23).

Unfortunately he was unable to obtain enough rent from the properties to pay off the interest on the bonds, and was made insolvent.
