WESTOVER — A funeral service will be held Saturday, at 1 p.m. in the Green Hill Church of the Brethren here, for a member, Vernal J. Hartman, 81. He died Wednesday in the Salisbury Nursing Home, Salisbury, of heart failure.
The Rev. Dave Collins will officiate. Interment will follow in Quinton Cemetery, Berlin.
Born in Port Republic, Va., he was a son of the late John Edward and Salome Smith Hartman.
A retired farmer, he was a member of the Somerset County Soil Conservation Association, the Somerset County Farm Bureau and the Rehoboth Ruritan Club.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Glick Hartman; two sons, John H. Hartman and Eugene H. Hartman, both of Westover; two daughters Vivian Bozman of Willards and Beverly dePadua of Gainesville, Fla.; a sister, Elsie Wright, Philadelphia, a brother, Omar Hartman Lake Charles, La.; 17 grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and seven step-grandchildren. A daughter, Christine Lednum, died in 1984.
Friends may call at the Watson and Melson Funeral Home, Pocomoke City, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from noon to 1 p.m.
Contributions may be made in memory of the deceased to the Green Hill Church of the Brethren in care of Betty Mahan financial secretary, Route 1, dox 114A, Pocomoke City, Md. 21851.
