About John Calvin Henson
John Henson, the Revolutionary War soldier born 1766 on the frontier of Virginia. In 1778, at the tender age of twelve, he enlisted in the Revolution with his brother Jesse Henson, for two months in Captian Evan Shelby's Company at Long Iland of Holston River, to go against the Indians. when he returned home and was discharge, his father, William Henson, took him and they removed to Rutherford County, North Carolina, where he continued to serve in the Revolution, in both North Carolina and South Carolina. On May 1, 1781 he enlisted in the (Regiment of Dragoons or Calvary) under Col. Hammond, Captain Milhaney and Lt. Nicholas Harvey, and March 1, 1782 at the Saluda River, Was discharged to return home. In the Fall of 1787, John Henson was married by George Ledbetter, a Justice of the peace, to Jane Goodbread, a daughter of Catherine and the Revolutionary Soldier, Phillip Goodbread Sr. John and Jane lived in Rutherford County, a few years and moved to then Warren County, Kentucky, where in 1801 he served as Ensign, under his brother Jesse as Lt. in the Warren County (Corn Stalk Militia). In the Spring of 1815, he moved to Posey, now Vanderburg County, Indiana and in 1826 to Indian Mound, between the Rivers in Wayne County, Illinois, where John Henson,died 25 July 1835.
