  2. Where John was born is not noted by Richardson. His father died in Northamptonshire in 1372. I used Lancashire for the datafield because, in 1343, his parents "settled the manor of Nether Kellet, Lancashire, the balliwick of the wapentake of Lonsdale, and the bailiwicks of Cartmel and Fourneys, which Edmund de Neville, Knt. held for life, on themselves for life following the said Edmund's death, with reversion to Thomas, son of the said Robert de Holand." (#Richardson)
  3. VCH Northampton 3 (1930): 136-137 (confuses this John Holand and his son, Sir John Holand, with their cousins, also John Holand, father and son, who were Earls of Huntingdon and Dukes of Exeter); 4 (1937): 8 (correctly identifies John Holand as heir male to his father, Robert Holand, 2nd Lord Holand).
