"Any concrete source on the parents would be appreciated. My guess is that his father was a man named John Honeycutt, who was probably the son of Ambrose Honeycutt. John appeared on a Cabarrus County store ledger along with other sons of Ambrose in the 1790s, and he appeared on the Montgomery County census in 1800. I also think John's mother was a woman named Frances, who later married Isham Robbins, and appears on the 1850 and 1860 census, widowed, living on John Huneycutt's property. These are just guesses, though, and aren't proven by any concrete evidence." ~ Jacob Huneycutt, 4th great grandson
From the book "The Generations of William Riley and Mila Ann Whitley Huneycutt" written by Minnie Hathcock Huneycutt of Locust, N.C. 1994: "John Huneycutt died in 1878. His grave site is in the yard of Mrs. Polly Burris (Mrs. Cromer Burris). This grave is almost directly across Highway 24/27 from Liberty Hill Primative Baptist Church. As noted elsewhere, John Huneycutt sold the land for the church to be built ($1.00 purchase price). John's grave site is at an old apple tree that he liked. According to Mrs. Polly Burris, (one of John's descendents), his home was west of the grave site several hundred feet.
The gravestone is leaning badly and is almost overgrown by a large boxwood. John's wife, Silvy Huneycutt is buried next to him, but her stone has no inscription and has been laid flat for ease of mowing.
John Honeycutt's grave stone inscription reads: In Memory of John Honeycutt He was Born May 10 AD 1803 an died October 11 AD 1878 Age 75 5 months and 11 days." "A deed dated 2 March 1838, indicates that John Honeycutt bought 100 acres of land for $5.00 on Stoney Creek, which bordered George Cagle's land. On 26 November 1846, John sold one acre of land to Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist CHurch for only $1.00. (The church was later built on that land.) In 1850, John witnessed the sale of property to WIlliam Riley Huneycutt. By 1851, John Huneycutt had accumulated 940 acres of land on Stoney Run Creek. In the 1850 Census, John is listed as a farmer.
