John Hynes Genealogy

John HYNES, who was obviously well educated wrote a letter to his family back in Ireland from the Ballarat Diggings in March 1854, nine months prior to his death in the stockade at Eureka. A summary of John's family can be found below:

James married Mary Hogan of Corofin with a son John Hynes b. 1784

John Hynes (b. 20 Jun 1784, d. 12 May 1848)

In October 1810 John Hynes married Judith, daughter of Roger Healy, Ballygreen, Newmarket-on-Fergus and his wife Elizabeth (nee Malone) of Ardsollis. Buried in a tomb bought by his wife and fourth son at Corcomroe Abbey. John & Judith had eight children:

1.James H. (23.1.1812-7.3.1874) 2.Patrick (20.8.1813-24.2.1875) married Mary O'Connell, daughter of Captain J O'Connell of Cork). Lived in Nottingham as MD. 3.Thomas (12.3.1814-28.1.1841) Died at Bayfield. 4.Elizabeth (14.3.1816-?) married Dr Denis Joseph Hynes of Seamount House, Kinvara (-16.7.1885) 5.Michael (20.1.1818-30.4.1890) Built Bayfield in 1849 aged 31. Married Susan Kerin of Glengariff, Kilfenora(22.12.1829-16.5.1886). Susan's mother died at Bayfield and she herself was buried at Corcomroe after dying of apoplexy. 6.Jane (1828-28.1.1840) Died of hip-joint disease. 7.John (14.11.1831-6.12.1854) Died from gunshot wounds in engagement between gold diggers and military at Ballarat, Australia. 8.Anna (8.5.1836-?) Married to Sir Henry Thynne, head of British Police.
