About John (Jack) Jackman
- Jack was a member of the Chorley ‘Terriers’, the pre-war Territorial soldiers based at the Drill Hall on Devonshire Road, Chorley. He had been a member of the congregation at nearby St Laurence’s Church and is listed on their war memorial. The ‘Terriers’ had no obligation to serve abroad once war had been declared as their primary duty was to serve within the Country. However, the Chorley ‘Terriers’ marched to Preston and volunteered their services in France. Jack was killed during what became known as Chorley’s darkest day, the Battle of Festubert.
