In his father's will made on 12 Oct 1501 and proved on 17 Apr 1502[3] John, who was then living in York, was made a number of bequests including his father's house and lands in Hull, lands in Northumberland including waters on the Tweed, and plate, salt and money. John's sisters were Agnes, Jonett and Diones.

John was probably the John Langton who was a member of the Guild of Corpus Christi in the City of York[4]. He was stated to be John Langton, Draper, York (son and heir of Ralph Langton, Alderman of Hull), Free in 1486, Chamberlain in 1499, and Sheriff in 1509-1510. Sheriff of Hull in 1512 and Mayor in 1521.

One of John's sons, Thomas Langton, became a citizen and Skinner of the City of London. In Langton v Beverley[5], Thomas Langton, a Skinner of London, was recorded as the grandson and heir of Richard Beverley, gentleman, suggesting that Thomas Langton's mother had been a Beverley.

John Langton died in 1542 (see his will below).
