Excerpts from the notes o f Mrs. Sylvia Welch, wife ofWilliam H. Welch Route 2, Box 427, Sapulpa, Oklahoma, 74066
"Apparently this John M. Lyle who went to Missouri was a brother of my William Daniel Lyle--the children of William Daniel Lyle said he spelled his name so beyause he had heard that his family origjnally spelled the name with a y. There was a lot of kidding back and forth about the spelling of the name. Anyway, the brother who went to Missouri (John Martin Lile) came back to Kentucky to serve in the War of 1812 and after that he came back to visit his brother's family --according to older descendants of Daniel Lyle --and they visited him in Missouri. I believe John M. Lyle had made a trip to Missouri before the War of 1812 --possibly With some of the family who moved out there. When he returned after the War of 1812, he married a Witt girl who had been taken with her parents from Estill County, Kentucky, to Missouri. No doubt a group of kinspeople and neighbors went there from Clark, Madison, and Estill Counties."
It is reported that John Martin Lile spoke French very well - personal communication Lynn Lisle Artofer
