John L. Lyons was born December 21, 1853 and died August 26, 1914. In the death of Mr. Lyons, Henry County lost one of her honored citizens. Mrs. Lyons had been ill all summer and had suffered greatly, having cancer of the stomach. All that could be done was done to make his last hours easy. He bore his suffering with great patience and cheerfulness and met death bravely. “I’m going home,” he said, a few hours before his died, and so he was with his family and friends around him when he feel asleep to awake in the better land. He leaves a wife, who was formerly Miss Roberts; three daughters: Misses Fannie and Rhetta, and Mrs. Tina Ellis; eight sons: L. T., Hickman, Edward, L. D., William, J. T., Hobart and Morris Lyons; two sisters: Mrs. J. N. Roberts, Eminence, and Mrs. William Roberts; three brothers: Joe, James and William Lyons and a host of friends to mourn his loss.
