About John Wood Pioneer McCutcheon, I
John McCutcheon is believed to be the father of John, James, Samuel, William and Robert. All of John, Sr.'s sons appeared early in Augusta County, Virginia. According to family tradition, John, Senior's "ship never landed," or perhaps he stayed behind in Northern Ireland.
I have entered John, Sr. here so I could connect the sons.
I suspect Lieut Wm McCutchan, 1722 - 1786, buried at North Mountain Cem. is his son.

There was more than one John.
The name of his wife is unknown, but it is NOT Grisal Campbell. She was married to a James McCutchan (per James 1759 will). See Lyman Chalkley's Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia...., Augusta Co., VA Will Book 2, Page 296, 1st Feb 1759 and proven 16 May 1759. James McCutchen's will, freeholder To (well beloved) wife Grisal and youngest son James, the tract testator lives on; to oldest son John and second son Patrick, 343 acres in Calf Pasture; to son William, if he lives to age, land; to elder daughter Sarah, second daughter Elizabeth. Executors, wife Grisal, Patrick Campbell, Samuel McCutchen. Teste: Robt. Campbell, W. Christian, Chas. Campbell, James Campbell. Proved, 16th May, 1759, by Wm. Christian and Ro. Campbell. Executors qualified.
I have entered John, Sr. here so I could connect several known sons. However, I found a John McCutchen, purchasing 920 acres in then Orange Co., VA (now Augusta Co.) on 27 May 1741 per the 20 May 1873 issue of the Staunton Spectator.
I suspect Lieut Wm McCutchan, 1722 - 1786, buried at North Mountain Burying Ground is his son. I notice there are newly listed kin at NMB Ground, that up until now have been undocumented at this cemetery.
His "son" Robert "McCutchen" not McCutcheon is listed on Robert's monument. It lists all those buried at North Mountain Burying Ground, as few marker exist today and many were removed for a barn foundation. Multiple spellings of their surname were used in family records/documents, and by the individuals making it harder to unite them. The majority of these early farmers could not write.
