John McIver emigrated from Scotland in 1784 and came to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, in 1822. The McIver family intermarried with the family of Joseph Philips who came to Tennessee from North Carolina in 1792. The descendants of these two pioneer families are among the most important families of Middle Tennessee
