John Merryman, Jr.

A son of Richard and Eleanor (Addison) Smith, Captain John Addison Smith, of Baltimore, who died May 8, 1776, married, October 17, 1765, Sarah, the daughter of William and Sarah Rogers (she married, second, John MERRYMAN) (son of John Merryman & Martha Bowen).

Children of Sarah ROGERS and John MERRYMAN are:

• i. Nicholas MERRYMAN was born 11 DEC 1726 in Baltimore County, Maryland, and died 14 JUL 1801. He married Jane UNKNOWN. She died AFT 1801. He married Elizabeth Jane ENSOR ABT 1750. She was born 29 JAN 1724/25.
• ii. Sarah MERRYMAN was born 12 MAY 1729 in Baltimore County, Maryland. She married Robert WILLMOTT 15 DEC 1748. He was born UNKNOWN.
• iii. Mary MERRYMAN was born 1732 in Baltimore County, Maryland, and died BEF 4 FEB 1774 in Baltimore County, Maryland. She married Abraham ENSOR 30 JAN 1749/50, son of John ENSOR and Elizabeth COLE. He was born 5 FEB 1726/27, and died 8 JUL 1797 in Baltimore County, Maryland.
• iv. Elizabeth MERRYMAN was born 13 JUN 1734 in Baltimore County, Maryland, and died 2 SEP 1795 in Baltimore County, Maryland. She married John GORSUCH 11 MAR 1755, son of Thomas B. GORSUCH and Jane ENSOR. He was born ABT 1730 in Baltimore County, Maryland, and died 2 AUG 1808 in Baltimore County, Maryland.
• v. John MERRYMAN was born 16 FEB 1736/37 in Baltimore County, Maryland, and died 14 FEB 1814 in Baltimore County, Maryland. He married Sarah ROGERS 9 DEC 1777 in St. Paul's Parish, Baltimore, Maryland, daughter of William ROGERS and Sarah UNKNOWN. She was born ABT 1742 in Baltimore County, Maryland, and died 21 AUG 1816 in Baltimore County, Maryland.
• vi. Benjamin MERRYMAN , Capt. was born 29 AUG 1739 in nr. Monkton, Baltimore County, Maryland, and died 30 MAY 1814 in Nr Monkton, Baltimore County, Maryland. He married Mary BELL 2 FEB 1762 in St. John's Parish, Baltimore, Maryland. She was born ABT 1741 in Baltimore County, Maryland.

• John’s will dated 4 Feb 1774, probated 11 Nov 1777, named five surviving children and grandchildren. Anne and Willliam Ensor of deceased daughter Mary, Executors wife Sarah, sons: Nicholas and Benjamin. Will gave his wife (though she died first) her share as 5 negroes, five horses, fifteen horned cattle, all my sheep, twenty hogs, one third of money and possessions, household furniture and dwelling for life.
