About John Neilson

He moved to Milwaukee with his sons John and Hamilton in 1836. Probably waiting until his father died before he moved. Both of his wives had also died. In 1850 he is living with his son Hamilton age 71 and born in New York. IN 1848 he does buy land in Rock Co, Wi. There is a stone in the Oakwood Cem that says Nelson on it. It is well worn and all you can read is Nelson. Most likely this is Johns grave. Evidently it is next to Hamilton and his wife Caroline. Hamilton and Caroline's stone is in very good shape. John's 2nd wife Susanna does not show up in the 1850 census so has probably died. May have even died before he left NY with his son Hamilton and son John. So when he went west he had lost his father and two wives. He left minor children with relatives. He married Susannah 30 Dec 1832 Saratoga, NY. He married his first wife Elizabeth Thorn 19 Dec 1803 Saratoga, NY.

Son Charles C Nelson is buried in Morton Hill Cemetery in Benton Harbor, Michigan. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=69124817
