- 14. AMPHYLLIS NEVILLE, daughter and heiress. She married (1st) WILLIAM GASGILL (or GAISGILL, GASKELL). They had one son, William, and one daughter, Margaret (wife of George Stapleton). WILLIAM GASKILL left a will dated 24 Sept. 1485, proved 3 Nov. 1485 (P.C.C. 17 Logge). His widow, Amphyllis, married (2nd) about 1489 JOHN NEWDIGATE, Esq. of Harefield, Middlesex, Serjeant-at-law, son and heir of John Newdigate, Esq., of Harefield, Middlesex, Crawley, Sussex, etc., Serjeant-at-law, by Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas Yonge, Gent., of Shirehampton near Bristol, and London, Justice of the Common Pleas, Justice of the King's Bench. They had nine sons, John, Esq., Charles, William, [Blessed] Sebastian [Carthusian monk, Catholic martyr], Anthony, Silvester, George, Dunstan, and Bonaventure, and five daughters, Jane, Mary [nun at Syon], Barbara (wife of John Crugg, Gent.), Dorothy (wife of Leonard Chamberlain, Knt.), and Sibyl [nun at Holywell]. He was admitted to Lincoln's Inn in 1483. About 1520 he and his wife, Amphyllis, sold the manor of Sutton, together with lands in Skegness, Winthorpe, and Burch, Lincolnshire, to William Smyth, LL.D., Archdeacon of Lincoln. JOHN NEWDIGATE, Esq., died 15 Aug. 1528, and was buried at Harefield, Middlesex. He left a will dated 23 June 1528, proved 25 Aug. 1528 (P.C.C. 37 Porch). His widow, Amphyllis, died 15 July 1544, and was buried at Harefield, Middlesex 16 July 1544.
