John A. Newell (1845 – 1918) was an English-American shoemaker from North Tarrytown, now Sleepy Hollow, New York.

John was born in Holborn, London, England to Frances (née Jarman) and John Newell, a porter for a silversmith. His profession in the shoe trade began at an early age, working as a boot closer at 15. He married Susan Dinah Eades on 20 Oct 1872 in St Anne's Church, London, England. The following year, he emigrated to New York aboard the passenger steamship Erin.

In America, John found work as a shoemaker at the Silver Shoe Factory in Tarrytown, New York. He worked there until the 1890s when the employees voted to unionize and the factory was shut down.

John and Eades had two children, Frances A. Newell (born c. 1878), and William Le Roy G. Newell (born October 23, 1884). Their daughter Frances died in 1893 at the age of 15. His wife Susan died shortly after in 1905.

John Newell died in 1918 of a chronic asthma attack. He was buried beside his wife and daughter in the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Sleepy Hollow, New York, though no headstone remains.
