John Newlon (1798-1872) was born in Loudoun Co. VA to Thomas Newlon (1770 - 1814) and probably Martha Janney. The family moved to now Taylor Co. WV when John was young.
He first married Isabella Yates (1803 - 1832) on 15 November 1821 in Harrison (Taylor) Co. VA and they had four known children:

1. Harriet (abt 1826 - ?)
2. Zelda Jane (1826 - 1891)
3. Martha Ann (1827 - 1904)
4. Francis (abt 1828 - ?) Isabella died on 24 June 1832 and John married Mariah Campbell Allen on 9 March 1833 in Harrison (Taylor) Co. VA and they had three known children:
5. Elizabeth J (1835 - 1891)
6. Rev. William Joseph (1837 - 1926)
7. Salathiel Johnson (1839 - 1908) John was a Constable in Taylor Co. in 1850 census and a farmer in 1860 census. In 1870, John and Mariah were living with Rev William Joseph in Olive, Harrison Co WV.
