About John Paull
GEDCOM Note
Elizabethtown, where John Paul was married, also called Elizabeth Township, was a township that existed in Essex County, in the state of New Jersey, from 1664 until 1855. The area was initially part of the Elizabethtown Tract, purchased from the Lenape [Delaware Indians] on October 28, 1664.
"He was in the the French & Indian war & was in an expedition to Renu[?] & Utica on the Mohawk River & when surprised by the Indians headed his boat down stream & escaped by going over Little Falls."
Source of biography dates is a chart made by Harry Nelson Paul in 1926, and a 7 page written letter, on his Happy Home Farm stationary. Although not referenced, Harry had a Paul Family Bible in his possession at this time.
Harry Nelson Paul's 1926 letter goes on to say "His [John Paul's] previous history remains to be traced out, some claim that he came directly from England, others that he was the son of William who was one of the orininal Paula that settled at Dighton, Mass. Can you help us find out which of these claims is the true one, or can you tell of any one who can help us about it? Mary was born in England in 1729 and after the death of her husband moved to Galway, Saratoga County, New Jersey with all her family except John the eldest. She died in Galway aged 98. John probably died in N. J.
