John Peter Delancey

Biographical Summary:

"...John Peter Delancey (1753-1828)...Sent abroad at the age of eight to be raised by an English aunt, Susannah, Lady Warren, he eventually was educated at Harrow and at Woowich Military College near London. Entering the British Army, he eventually rose through the officer corps of the Eighteenth Regiment, known as the Royal Irish, to become a lieutenant in 1775 and captain five years later. Acccording to a sketch Cooper wrote of his father-in-law in 1831, DeLancey returned to America with the Royal Irish Regiment in 1774 and was posted then at Philadelphia..."
