is the youngest child and evidently the only son of the deceased John Peter, merchant in Glasgow, and his wife, Jean Johns, He was born before 7 March 1701, the date upon which his baptism was registered at Glasgow. The baptismal record of John Peter (Otherwise John Peters) reads as follows: "The deceast John Peters merchand in Glasgow and Jean Johns a lawful son . John .
