John was born to Anton and Michelina Kasprzyk Pokornowski on October 8, 1909 in Hale Township, McLeod County, MN. He was living and working on his father's farm at the time he married Marie Wasko on February 27, 1933, and they continued to live with his parents for a short time thereafter. When they moved out, they resided in the living quarters of a filling station which John operated in Silver Lake, MN. During this time, he was in competition with Marie's father, Vincent James Wasko, who operated a filling station on the opposite end of the same town.

By the 1940 census they were living on, and working, the farm in the Rich Valley Township of McLeod County that was previously owned by Marie's father.  With them were their two children Richard 7, and Darlene 3.  John and Marie separated in the early 1950's, and John worked for the Sunbeam Corporation in Chicago for a number of years, and died at age 66 in Glencoe, MN on November 4, 1975 as the result of a stroke .* Reference: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/119322125/john-c_-pokornowski Find A Grave Memorial
