About John Frantz Putman
John appears to be the eldest son. He served in the Pennsylvania Militia during the Revolutionary War. He was born January 29, 1748 in Germany and died in 1799. His wife was Sarah Schneider and she was still living in 1810.
John Putman was the first of Andrew's children to settle in Somerset County. He owned lands in both Somerset and Milford townships. He was both a farmer and a distiller. His farm was some 160 acres, and after the estate was settled it was acquired by his son Henry. The distillery went to his son John.
