Son of Stephen Putnam. John Putnam lived with the family of Ebenezer Harvey, Senator at that time, during his boyhood. In 1779 he enlisted in Col. Hercules Mooney's regiment. This regiment was ordered to march to Rhode Island, which was about 110 miles. Married Mary Converse in 1801.

Charlotte Putnam, b. 3/1/1807, married Dr. Robert Gleason of Claremont, (brother to Dr. Timothy S. Gleason); she died 9/22/1858.
Charles Lewis Putnam, b. 9/10/1810, married 1835 to Dorothy Flagg of Keene, NH. He died 7/17/1877.
Francis Maria Putnam, b. 7/18/1816 - d. 7/18/1817.
Julia Putnam, b. 8/17/1819, married Orrin Rawson.
John Jay Putnam, b. 5/21/1823.
