About John Patrick Ring, Sr.
Grandpa John Dad’s Dad
John Patrick Ring
My father is a second generation Longshoremen. His father, John Patrick Ring, Sr. is rumored to be instrumental in the ILWU and initiating the Guaranteed pay wage in which my father participated in and enjoyed most of his career.
I believe my Grandfather was a tough father that may have been so brutal to his children they wren removed from the home, at least my dad was, going to a boy’s home that he continued to run away from returning home to his mother, being sent back…my father never spoke badly about his dad and never mentioned any violence against him, he did say his dad was a tough old man and my father stuttered his entire life as well as had an alcoholic problem I believe his father did too but don’t know for sure.
I have a photo of my Grandpa John holding me when I was 2 weeks old showing how my father favors his father, his clef chin being inherited by my father & my son.
He died of
Prostate cancer according to Guy, March 1965 ~ I know he was hospitalized and that my father took care of him- bathing, feeding etc..And that it broke my father’s heart to lose his old man.
