The eldest son, Robert RUdston, esq. of Hayton, espoused Elizabeth, daughter of Edward Kighly, esq. and was s. by his son, MAthew RUdston, esq. of Hayton, living at the close of the 15th century, who m. a daughter of Thomas Studham, esq. of Pocklington, and had issue,
1. WALTER, his heir.
11. John (Sir), lord mayor of London in 1528, who m. first, Agnes, daughter of Henry Seirson, esq. and had issue.
The eldest daughter n. Sir Christopher Hilliard, knt.;
and the second, Sir Thomas Wotton, knt. of Kent.
Sir John wedded, secondly, Ursula, daughter of Sir Robert Dymoke, knt. and had by her (who m. secondly, Sir Edward Wotton, knt.)
a son, Robert, who purchased from Sir Thomas Wyatt the manor of Boughton Monchensie, in Kent, and in the 2nd and 3rd year of Edward VI. procured his lands in that county to be disgavelled by the act then passed for the purpose. Engaging temp. Queen MARY, in Sir Thomas Wyatt's rebellion, he was condemned to be executed, but her majesty was pleased to respite the sentence. In the 1st of Elizabeth he was by act of Parliament restored in blood, and resided on his manor of Boughton, to the mansion of which he made considerable additions.

Edward Wotton was survived by his sons Thomas and William and daughter Anne. Two more sons and a daughter died young. Family relationships became complicated in this generation. Brother and sister Thomas and Ann Wotton married sister and brother Elizabeth and Robert Rudstone, daughter and son of their stepmother Ursula by her first marriage to Sir John Rudstone. William Wotton married Mary Danett, descendant of one of the co-heirs of the Belknap estates.27
