Inez when growing up would go once a year to Macedonia Baptist Church for all day meeting on the grounds in Simpson County, Mississippi. Would go to see her Dad's Aunt Willie and Uncle Needham Grubbs. Lived in a house out in the country and would insist they eat sweet pickles.
Dad's brother Cletus Buford (CB) Samford, lived in Clarksdale, MS, fireman and became fire chief. Raised hibiscus for the city and in the greenhouse raised alligators for the zoo.
When asked about Dad's parents told 2 stories: 1) Died of influenza. 2) Died in a tornado in Silver Creek, MS.
Inez went to Pinola High School. Typing teacher was Iduma Sanford Bishop. Her daughter, Lucrutia, told Inez about 1996 at high school reunion, she had family information. After 2-3 years, got the information. Found out that John and his brother, CB, were illegitamate children of the woman who was the sister of Willie Sanford Grubbs.
Dad was the outgoing town marshal and was asked by the incoming marshal to help him arrest a bootlegger. Tried to stop the bootlegger who shot him through the heart on January 1, 1940.
