All 5 brothers were born in Frederick Co. Maryland were the parents met and married. Washington County was rural frontier land with nothing there prior to 1754 when Forts were put up in Pittsburgh and present day Brownsville. Col. George Washington was dispatched through the following decades to put down Indian unrest. The county was originally part of Westmoreland County. IN 1781 the county was designated as Washington and Plotted for land sale for the first time. This is when settlers tended to come to the region. It is doubtful that John Shidler Sr. and his son's moved to the region much before that time frame.
Also note all 5 son's are listed with DAR with the name spelled Schidtler, all serving in the WA CO PA milita.
John Shidler is buried on Harry Richards old farm in a private Cemetery. Since John is buried there it was probably originally John's farm.
