At his death, John possessed considerable amount of real estate and personal property. His will mentioned his wife Prudence, sons Ashel, Oliver, John, Nathan, Richard and David.is wife Prudence survived him about 13 years and lived on the old homestead in Granville with her son, David Spelman. After Prudence died 1783 Mar 1 the final distribution of her husband Richard's estate was distributed to the only child of their son Richard, Huldah Spelman.
