About John Spillman
born abt. 1752, son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Thomas) SPILMAN.
John SPILMAN married 15 November 1771, at King George County, Virginia to Elizabeth BROWN, dau. of Thomas and Sarah BROWN and sister of Mary BROWN who married, 1775, to William SPILMAN. At the time the two BROWN sisters married, the BROWN family were living in King George County, Virginia, but as a result of a boundary change in 1777, the BROWNS found themselves in Stafford County without ever having moved. THE SPILMAN PAPERS (Forestville, California 1965), p.20; VIRGINIA MAGAZINE OF HISTORY, Vol.22, p.310.
On 25 June 1805, John and Elizabeth SPILMAN, of Culpeper County, sold land deeded to them by Thomas BROWN in 1772, to Leonard and Thomas COOK of Alexandria, Virginia. The deed was signed by John and Elizabeth SPILMAN and witnessed by James WITHERS, John WITHERS, George SUDDITH, Conway SPILMAN, and William SPILMAN. - Orange County Deed Book 23, p.498; Melville, Malcolm L. THE SPILMAN PAPERS (Forestville, California 1965), pp.20-21.
