John was born in Paris, France, November 6th 1864 to Johannes Dorius Sybrandt (1822-1894) of Norway, who was a cotton merchant and consul for Sweden and Malvina Modeste Morphy (1830-1894) of New Orleans, the daughter of Judge Alonzo Morphy (An Irishman from Charleston, SC), there were four children in all; Edward Sybrandt (Born in England), who became a Jesuit Priest; Alonzo Sybrandt, John Sybrandt, and Marie Sybrandt -- all of who never married.

John immigrated to the United States on board 'Arizona' from Liverpool on 23 Oct 1882.

He was Naturalized in Savannah, GA, 27 Mar 1902.

When in Savannah, John stayed with his brother Alonzo at 8 East Liberty Street, as they are found in the city directories.

John and his brother Alonzo were Cotton Exporters operating as Sybrandt & Company at 218 East Bay Street.
